TREADING WATER/THE HOLKERIAN SUB STAGE

KY-10 and thearthropleura had been here before, long before anybody might have perceived that the ghost from their existence would be permanent. Even the vertical slabs had not found a home, they still drifted hopelessly on a river system with an alien south westerly direction.
KY-10 knew that the north east now brought the tales from the insiders, the current residents on the rocks and the stinging sound of hormonal screaming of the overly developed and manicured geological modernism that they feasted upon.
Unperturbed it set its thoughts firmly from the shallows of the cold north sea and placed them upon the crumbling borders of the East Neuk.
These walls held memories………….. memories of friends.

The Holkerian sub-stage, the setting for a performance of giant proportions. This period represents a massive change in the planets history. Small and gnarly looking organisms were unfurling and stretching their lateral branches and trunks to new heights. the flowerless, leafy fronds of the ferns shaped the undergrowth. The humidity gathered pace . The clammy forests were packed with amphibious life, reptiles and enormous flying insects frolicking in the lush oxygen pastures of the earths atmosphere.

KY-10 knew that west of the harbour the real Crailers lived……lived, died and now lived again. At low tide the humans gathered to poke and prod, to position themselves next to their shadows and create a strange type of petrified digital deposit, to be shared , thumbs uped via the odd arithmetic fog which buzzed above the land mass.

Confusing for it.
The village appeared as a binary square code. Only the people who made their way to the extremities of the source were visible to it.
The Sea was a calmer……..slower place , interrupted only by the crackle of the fishermans radio and the warm slow clunk of chains on rocks.

High tide was when KY-10 visited. Sometimes difficult to find amidst the iron deposits and the piercing stench of the seaweed. Those spectres lay dormant..reflecting a time KY-10 yearned for. The comforting crawl of the arthropleura on KYs soul. Its century of sharp spiny legs, feeling and shaping its webbed feet….the arthropleuras armoured exoskeleton embracing KY-10s forever cold shins and ridiculous knees. All KY-10 can do now is drift across its history and imagine their time.
The arthropleuras tracks, now under KY-10, its 4 foot long body remembered in a series of dots along the lime stone graveyard of the lepidodenron tree. Its shattered stigmata covered in a 335 million year old polkadot shell.
The bark of the lepidodendron was often thrown from the shore into the shadows of the bay. Its diamond shaped leaf cushions coming close at times and settling with the patrtans at KY-10s dangling feet. This one, a small section of tree trunk, brought a message. it spoke with a deadening thunk, the dull crack of stone on plastic echoed across the outgoing tide and started a voyage that would help. KY-10 left the arthropleuras alone for now. He wasn’t going anywhere.
